th
century, railway opened South Tyrol to the world, which made both
Gossensaß and Meran notable spa resort towns for tourists who craved an
alpine retreat.
Acclaimed Norwegian poet, Henrik Johan Ibsen,
chose this village near the Brenner Pass seven times for his summer
holidays. Ibsen worked mostly during the night, cleaned his inkwell in
the village fountain early in the morning, and loved strolling along the
mountain stream promenades, earning him the nickname “Bachmandl”. Take a journey through historical pictures, postcards, and personal letters of the
